Prison Reform
Patricia believes that non-violent crimes should be looked at differently than violent crimes.
In Alabama, non-violent crimes are subject to the Habitual Offenders Act in which a non-violent offender could spend up to a lifetime in prison.
Patricia believes that these practices should be outlawed and be replaced with a Truth-in-Sentencing Act which would rehabilitate non-violent offenders.
Rehabilitation programs should be created to do what it’s meant to do, restore back to a healthy state through education, training and therapy and it will eliminate taxpayer dollars from compensating an overcrowded system only to imprison those who have not committed crimes of Moral Turpitude or crimes that harm other individuals.
Training should allow them to be positioned back into society, become productive citizens and will help spur the economy’s growth again.
